Putting Studio
In a round of golf, a player will hit more putts than any other type of shot. Which is why we put so much emphasis on its importance. As part of our golf training programmes, we identify four key skills that students must work on to putt successfully. You can learn more about them on our putting academy page.
To help our students develop their putting skills, we have installed a purpose-built indoor putting studio. This allows us to really focus and optimise the effectiveness of our putting lessons. Within the studio, we use the latest technology to help students develop the first three of our four putting skills.
SAM Putt Lab
One of our key technologies is the SAM Putt Lab, an accurate and comprehensive putt analysis and training system. It works by measuring and analysing all the important parameters of a student’s putting stroke. In fact, it can accurately measure over 50 putting parameters, which it then displays in a graphical report.
Even the smallest inconsistencies can be measured in the putting stroke. Which is great for our coaches as it allows us to quickly identify which areas to work on. Putter face angles, face rotation, swing path, impact spot and stroke rhythm are some of the key parameters we consider. By analysing the reports, we can quickly determine where correction is needed and create training strategies.
Aim Perception Testing
Where a golfer thinks he or she is aiming is not always aligned with where their putter is actually aiming. Posture, body angle and the way you hold the putter can influence where the putter head is actually aiming. You don’t have to travel far from the hole for an inaccuracy of a few degrees to cause a problem.
We ask students to line up a putt over a short distance. Once they are set, we use a system of lasers and mirrors to demonstrate exactly where their putter head is aiming. This is great for demonstrating the difference between perceived aim and actual aim. This then allows us to easily change their setup to align their perception with reality.
